Ellen Ecker Ogden is a food and garden writer and has published three cookbooks. In 2007, she started to offer private kitchen garden design to home cooks and chefs, as well as give workshops to share ideas for beautiful food gardens. Her newest book, The Complete Kitchen Garden, was published in spring 2011 featuring 14 theme gardens with recipes. She reveals that her goal is “to inspire gardeners to grow ornamental edibles and to plant seeds that will nurture a lifestyle and cook healthy food. My company is built on a passion for good food and garden design, and I hope to encourage and share ideas with other gardeners.” While her focus is on edible gardens, the garden designs are based on classic European style potager gardens that go back to the early 14th century.

Ellen marries skills as a cook and a gardener, which means that she can select the very best tasting vegetables and herbs that will make a difference in the garden and in a recipe.

So how does Ellen measure success? She reports that “success for me is to teach how to design and plant a food garden. I consider having an online newsletter to be an excellent extension of my website and a great way to get the word out about the work that I offer to clients. It is an excellent way to save on postage and print costs, too. It has helped my business grow by expanding my customer base. Each month, my e-mail list continues to grow thanks to special requests on my web site.”
